Underworld 2: drugs, candies, what’s next?

May 17th, 2012 Add comments

Years have passed since we have responded to Apple’s rejection of Drug Lords by rebranding the game to Underworld: SweetDeal. And still the controversy echoes from time to time!

uw2-news-setting

A couple of recent articles covering grey areas of modern entertainment and possible abuse of location-based games:

  • GPS Technology Allows Smart Phone Game Apps to Cross Realism
  • Dealing Crack? There’s an app for that too!

While we don’t want to get into murky waters of what’s right and what’s wrong about location-based games, a topic worth discussion is which setting / set of commodities would be the best fit for UW2.

It’s interesting that even though the sweets were supposed to be a funny cover for the game’s true theme, SweetDeal has earned itself a lot of loyal fans who loved it because of the candies. And that makes the question of setting for the sequel even more complicated and tricky. What’s your take, folks?

P.S. We know you’re waiting some news on the feature set of UW2 — let me assure you we’re on track with that, please be patient! =)

Whatever helps keep it viable on all platforms. The candy theme is funny though.

    Underworld 2: Armageddon

Dealing sweets and cake is all good until the zombie apocalypse rolls around. Sweet delicacies which were once illegal, no longer exist. Zombies have wiped out all the major cities and only small numbers of people have managed to band together and survive.

If ever there was a demand for commodities such as Coffee Beans, Rice, Sugar and seasonings such as Jerk, Cinnamon and Chinese 5 Spice, this would be it.

    Everybody loves a zombie apocalypse.

Candy schmandy… Drugs schmugs, im ok with it either way. But i do favor the realism of the Android version. And why no “jobs” on Android version? Yes, im playing on both platforms.

We could smuggle body parts and organs too. And if apple puts the red lights on, we could get add “toy”, “plastic” out “artificial” before ask our goods

Drug theme well at least for Android. Apple have sweets if they gonna get all petty and want to control guess they don’t realise its just a bit of fun surly the clue is in the name lol
Shud put in option to own part of or buy / set up grow houses or meth labs or even cut up drugs to weaken up to make em go further just
You cud even do something wiv money laundering of gun smuggling

Just try not to censor the Android version and Facebook links for android

    Keep up good work

How about..”Underworld 2: Candylord”or “Underworld 2: Sweet Dreams”?? lol…I like the candy theme. Hope y’all keep it Realistic enough for the grown folks(no zombie, vampire or futuristic s**t), with the setting based in the present and a “from rags to riches” theme/lifestyle . Squirt guns and water balloons could be used as the weapons. Keep up the good work!

Maybe an option to have drugs, candy, weapons, etc.

I love druglords on my iPhone but it’s odd playing in public sometimes so it would be neat to turn on the candy option when needed.

Maybe like a quick swap button

I’d have to say I like the drug theme. What about different store fronts that you purchase drugs from, like you go to the bakery cause you know they sell cocaine there. While you’re there to throw off suspicion from the cops you also buy 20 pieces of.baked goods.

Really the thing that is missing from the originals fighting, running, and finding stuff. Tips for where to look for things would be good too. Like the ole “such and such will be in demand for x amount of time” could be true, could be false. Oh!!! Add another column for the amount that can be charged for each unit too. Only going up to $9999 sucks. Just sOme stuff I thought of.

Have the option to switch between different skins. I like the candy much more than drugs but on android I am stuck with drugs. Please both crowds and just have an option in settings to switch.

Love the candy theme. There are tons of drug based games out there. None of sweets. And I get a lil bored of the drug ones. Makes me feel I’m with a load of wannabes plastic gangsters.

Hey everybody, thanks for the pile of ideas and suggestions! Even the really crazy ones are worth considering =)

We’ll keep you posted on the progress of deciding about the setting. I don’t think it is something we will settle on very quickly though, the decision is pretty tough.

What about having smuggled items? Things like guns in Britain or foreign rice in Japan. Illegal pets and furs and ivory would also be good.
Fake ids and fake tax stamps for cigarettes are also an idea to consider.

hi there ~ I’d like some sort of way that you can sell candy/drugs instead of just from AI players.

back again…needs turf battles, options to rob other players, places to find/buy weapons, plenty of accessories(cars, jewelery, etc.) to buy, gambling and maybe a smuggling chat room or prison to get connected with other players worldwide

Ok, been trying to think of a good theme…granted that drugs is the best…sweets a fun, comical theme. For some of us…we like the idea of the game, not so much the theme. I find myself positioning my screen so noone else can see it. It would be nice to toggle between themes.

But anyways, the problem is coming up with a possible real world theme that is believable and applicable. Given the current state of the economy and that things are very much a global economy, it generally keeps prices from fluctuating too much. The only possibility I can see being applicable is food.being that certain foods can only be grown in certain climates and seasonally it would make that theme more believable.

The other good thing is you can pull from the farmville crowd for new players. Labs are easily farms…cops are thieves…and an easy spinoff could be a farmville-esque game where people are actual suppliers, or not.

another theme…while still would be controversial…but due to the fact it is probably way less common of an illegal market and less common, it may be less of less of a target for the critical, might be underworld: arms trading.(guns and such)

the arms trading gave me another one…but previously mentioned….underworld: organ transplant.

Ok…I would prefer the food theme…but toggling between themes would be the best, and I would not be opposed to the sweet theme

How about a Fantasy world where you can sell things like unicorns, honest lawyers, and politicians brains?
