The cpu is branded as slightly newer design amount however it and the GPU are likely the similar speed since the 3GS. The old Touch using the similar Processor and GPU as the 3G was quicker. Apart from having the clock speed turned up greater the Touch has less software to run since it is not a phone. It should defeat any iPhone to this day in overall performance.
