Jailbreakers’ Underworld: first results & update

January 30th, 2009 Add comments

UnderworldIt’s been two hot weeks since Underworld has been first presented to the beta testers community. The time was pretty exciting for us, and there are reasons for that :)

First of all, the game world’s population is now over 4,000 real players and growing, which is even more than we’ve anticipated for the beta testing period (sorry folks if you’ve noticed some network related delays - the world got overcrowded, and we wanted to give everyone a chance to play).

Secondly, we’ve received a hundreds of feature suggestions and some real useful feedback, which we wanted so much in our effort to improve the game. Thank you all for that and please don’t stop! :)

It is clear for us now that the concept and the execution of UW were taken very well, and it’s time to make the game even better.

Which brings us to the next point of this topic: game client update (1.0.1) was just pushed to Cydia. Changelog:

  • fix: installation errors on some devices
  • fix: random crashes on the first run on some devices
  • fix: map screen crashes
  • feature: map screen usability&speed improved
  • feature: new game start (Profile->Edit->New Game)
  • bonus feature - Jailbreakers’ Special - true commodity names

Go to Cydia’s “Changes” tab, the brand new shiny UNDERWORLD update will be waiting for you there.

Enjoy and don’t forget to let us know how did it go for you :)

* * *

We are going to put more light on our nearest roadmap soon. Stay tuned.

Kickass, glad to see an update and the actual names instead of herb and stuff. Option to reset your own game was also a plus! cant wait for more people to get involved!

Hi there, if I update and jailbreak my phone…would i lose my current status and start over in Underworld?

    January 31st, 2009 at 10:42 am

No, Hax, your character progress will be saved on the game server. Although some info, like Recent Deals (history) or Messages will be lost, ’cause they are stored locally.

Is it just my location or have all the drugs dried up since the update? Where I once bought 14 Viagra pills now only one is availible. It’s like the market just went away when a day ago using the old version it was booming.

@ Danny: I couldn’t install the game either until I restored the phone to 2.2.1 and JB it again. might help you too.
    * Sean, I managed to remove your comment by accident, sorry (damn this new WordPress 2.7 has features I still can’t get use to :) ). If I remember correctly, this is what it was like. Andrey.

I am still having a lot of trouble selling. I started over today and nothing has sold all day, I used all my upgrades of trade area. what gives?

Hey Sean! Great to hear you managed to install the game. Drop me a note sometime, how do you like it :)

What comes to the initial crashes - sadly, we still can’t fix the bug, ’cause it won’t reproduce on any of our devices (both generations, almost all firmwares). Only thing we suspect, that it might be a compatibility issue with some other app installed through Cydia. Not sure though.

I dont believe that the Official App store is yet to notify you of there decision. With your many delays competition is now beating you to the store: First Prohibition 3 and now pay2play (http://www.yanki.jp/?page_id=8).
I would be nice if you let us know what was actually going on.

    Hi,
Is there a forum for troubleshooting? I installed Underworld on UL + JB IP 2G 2.2 but cannot run the game. I just see the intro screen and then the app quits. Any advice? Thanks.

I’m with Christian - my market has dried up despite a bunch of people in downtown Chicago. What’s odd is that the same people are selling the same variety of drugs, they are just never go above 1.

  19. LANDSER
    February 2nd, 2009 at 9:15 pm

The market isn’t dry here (Mobile, AL), but I would like to see “real” people playing this game. I drive an hour one way to work, and never see anything other than the “bots” selling or buying.

This did bring me to a question, how are you going to regulate prices?
Wouldnt they continue to escalate higher, until there is a point that everything is too expensive for people to get into the game?

    February 2nd, 2009 at 10:44 pm

Yes it could be nice to know a bit more about the rules, for example what’s the trade zone exactly (for buy and sell?, which distance?)

There are some problem to play due to the localization; this week-end I was sometimes in the suburbs and make quite no business. I make 10x more money when I’m in the center of Paris then when I’m in the suburbs. I can’t believe what it would be if I were in the no man’s land and yet I had my trade area to the max (satellite phone ,cartel and Underworld ;))

I would also be interested in a forum if the owners could set one up. Some extra details on the game would be excellent to assist with gameplay.

rob, Brad,, we are definitely going to launch a public forum on a dedicated web-site for everyone to discuss the game, it’s troubles and strategies. Bit later though. Having a lot of work to do with the world economy for the time being.

  23. andrey
    February 3rd, 2009 at 10:23 am

We are aware of some locations with a kinda frozen economy. Also, there are zones with really active bots, but still with a very static supply&demand model.
Which is why I’m happy to say that a new economy model is already in an internal testing. We are hoping to push it live before the end of this week.

    Hi andrey,
I have the same problem as rob and Danny.
I installed Underworld after upgrading my phone to 2.2.1 and now I cannot run the game. I just see the intro screen and then the app quits.

    February 5th, 2009 at 11:37 am

I’m with Brad, I cannot figure out how to play!
Simple instructions on buying selling and setting price would be great!
So, these are not real people I am dealing with on my map?

  26. LANDSER
    February 6th, 2009 at 2:31 pm

Any update you can give us on the status of the upcoming (should have been this week, right?)?

  27. andrey
    February 6th, 2009 at 11:51 pm

CatDaddy, some of them can be real people (depends on the locations are are in :), but many of them are bots, right.

LANDSER, sorry for a delay, got swamped a bit :) Gonna publish it soon though!

loving this game would love a forum also.
would be nice to know who are bots and real people can normal tell due to display pic. i would like to set a priority not to price but to real people. a better way to push stock into the game might be when you upgrade you get some as a bonus meaning you can lower the amount of bots as well.

I also crash on startup, I’ve reinstalled and rebooted countless times;(. iPhone 3G running 2.2.1. I’d really love to play, as the concept is neat.

    Why won’t it work ? ;(

You make valid points all of them. I think that we want to be heard as much as we don’t want to leave comments in the wrong circumstances. It’s a human response to a human problem — as contadictory as we all are.
